IEP funding and special-education support in Valley private schools

With a current IEP, a TEFA account in Hidalgo or Starr County can run from about $15,600 to more than $22,000, depending on the home district and the IEP setting. Here's what that buys and where to look.

What the IEP adds here

A mainstream IEP (code 40) brings the account to $16,889 in McAllen ISD, $16,673 in Edinburg CISD, $17,035 in PSJA ISD and $17,074 in Sharyland ISD. Residential-facility codes in McAllen ISD reach $25,815.

Small districts pay more

The state formula favors small districts, so the same IEP is worth $20,356 in La Villa ISD and $22,014 in San Isidro ISD.

Schools reporting services

Sanctuary Christian Academy in Edinburg reported special-education services, speech therapy and reading specialists to the state finder. St. John's Episcopal School in McAllen reported speech therapy, and Covenant Christian Academy reported reading specialists.

Get the IEP on file

Only a public-school IEP from 2023-24 or later, on record with TEA, triggers the add-on. Ask your home district for an evaluation early; districts evaluate resident children who attend private school, too.

Therapy outside school

Speech, occupational and behavioral therapy and autism support from approved Valley providers can be paid from the account when insurance or Medicaid isn't covering it.
